AMA Citation Style, 11th ed.

Article


Author AA. Title of article.  Abbreviated Journal Title, Year of Publicataion; volume #(issue #):inclusive pages. DOI/URL with Accessed date.
 

  • Article titles are typed with first word and proper nouns capitalized.
  • Journal title is abbreviated in italics - A searchable listing of Journals in the U.S. National Library of Medicine can be found by visiting this link - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nlmcatalog/journals/
  • Volume and issue information is identified as volume no.(issue #). * Issue numbers may not always be available. - example 12(2):page #s or 12:page #'s
  • Include a DOI number or URL with accessed date at end of citation.

Article - 7 or more authors 


Write out the first three authors followed by "et al"

Author1 AA, Author2 BA, Author3 CA, et al. Title of article.  Title of Periodical, Year:volume #(issue #). pages. doi/Accessed Date with url

Online/Electronic articles 


  • Inlcude the article's DOI 
  • If a DOI is not available, use the database permalink or item URL with accesssed date
  • When using an article URL, verify the link still works before submitting assignment. 
  • Check with instructor to see if hyperlinks should be included in final document
