What is information literacy?

Information Literacy is typically defined as a combination of abilities for identifying, locating, understanding, evaluating and using information. Information literacy is a life-long learning process that develops as you grow. The library is a key tool in helping you to develop the skills needed to:

  • Identify nature and extent of the information you need
  • Find the needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Critically evaluate the information and its sources found
  • Apply information effectively for a specific purpose
  • Acknowledge the sources your use.
